Serena Anderson brings over three decades of dedicated service to public education in Kentucky, where she has served in roles ranging from classroom teacher to district academic officer. Her career began as a language arts and social studies teacher at Beaver Creek Elementary, where she also contributed to statewide curriculum teams and served as a Writing Cluster Leader and Co-Director of the Mountain Writing Project.
Anderson鈥檚 leadership journey expanded through service at Carr Creek Elementary and as District Language Arts Instructional Coach for Knott County Schools, supporting instructional strategies, assessment design, and professional development. At Jenkins Independent School District, she served as assistant principal for grades 6-12, where she facilitated school improvement initiatives that elevated district performance from 鈥淣eeds Improvement鈥 to 鈥淒istinguished鈥 status.
At the state level, Anderson worked as an Education Recovery Leader with the Kentucky Department of Education, providing direct coaching and data analysis support to schools identified for turnaround. Her efforts included guiding principals in implementing Data Analysis Professional Learning Communities and Multi-tiered Systems of Support.
In 2022, Anderson became Chief Academic Officer for Floyd County Schools, where she coordinated district assessments, oversaw comprehensive improvement planning, and led professional learning aligned to Kentucky Academic Standards. She also played a pivotal role in promoting innovation in STEM and instructional technology.
