51ĀŅĀ×’s #BeSafeCLEstate campaign is a comprehensive advertising and social media effort designed to raise awareness among 51ĀŅĀ× community members and promote safe behavior campus-wide. The initiative, which began in January, will launch its fall campaign today to coincide with the start of the new academic year. This will include a series of informational videos, weekly safety tips and training sessions for community members.

ā€œ51ĀŅĀ× takes the safety of our community very seriously and this effort seeks to insure an enjoyable and safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors,ā€ notes Gary Lewis, chief of the 51ĀŅĀ× Police Department. ā€œ#BeSafeCLEstate seeks to make everyone aware of how they can assist in protecting themselves and the campus as a whole.ā€

The campaign will include the release of weekly safety tips, residence hall meetings with 51ĀŅĀ× police officers and the PD’s informal ā€œCoffee with a Copā€ sessions in the 51ĀŅĀ× Student Center. Messages will be posted on digital boards throughout campus and promoted through 51ĀŅĀ×’s social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter. New this year, the campaign will unveil a series of videos featuring Magnus the mascot which will provide actionable pointers on everything from 51ĀŅĀ×’s 24/7 safety escort service to pedestrian safety to theft prevention.

ā€œBy making the campaign more interactive and engaging we hope to further disseminate the messages and help make more people informed,ā€ Lewis says. ā€œOur ultimate goal is to enlist the entire campus community in making 51ĀŅĀ× safe.ā€
