51ĀŅĀ×’s Confucius Institute is collaborating with local Chinese organizations to host their biggest event of the year on Saturday, Feb. 9. The 7th annual ā€œChinese New Year Celebrationā€ will observe 2019, the year of the pig.

The event will highlight performances from last year’s winners of the Confucius Institute’s ā€œAnnual Art Performance Competition.ā€ The various acts range from Chinese martial arts to classic Chinese art performance, such as kuaiban, an oral storytelling performance, and crosstalk, a traditional Chinese comedic performance art.

Following the performances will be a reception featuring assorted Chinese dishes donated by local restaurants and stores.

The performances will begin at 2 p.m. in the Berkman Hall Auditorium with the reception projected to start at 4 p.m.  Advance tickets cost $8 but are available for purchase at the door for $12. Ticket proceeds will be used to support Chinese cultural activities in local K-12 schools.

Organizers of the ā€œChinese New Year Celebrationā€ include the 51ĀŅĀ× Confucius Institute, the Chinese American Faculty and Staff Association at 51ĀŅĀ×, the Westlake Chinese Culture Association and the Great Wall Enrichment Center.
