This year’s parade, rally and revelries took place on Malls B and C after the step-off and march through downtown Cleveland. The events, which began at noon, offered attendees an upgraded experience—replete with a pair of performance stages, vendors, a health and wellness village, food trucks, games, sports and more.

51ĀŅĀ× was front-and-center with dozens of university participants and dignitaries joining a block of marchers from Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, Kent State University and Cuyahoga Community College among others. 51ĀŅĀ×’s delegation included Laura J. Bloomberg, Ph.D., president of 51ĀŅĀ×, along with members of her cabinet and Spring 2022 51ĀŅĀ× Valedictorian, Connor M. Mahon.

Even 51ĀŅĀ×’s Viking-in-residence Magnus was there to meet and greet Northeast Ohio’s many revelers.

ā€œI’ve received lots of happy feedback about 51ĀŅĀ×’s participation,ā€ said Kara Tellaisha, LGBTQ+ Student Services coordinator for 51ĀŅĀ×’s Division of Student Affairs. Tellaisha added that it was ā€œwonderful to see families both of origin and of choiceā€ out supporting the people they love. ā€œI feel so much joy being around so many queer people and allies in one space,ā€ she said.

Pride in the CLE is one of the larger LGBTQ+ events in the Midwest—equal parts entertainment, education and activism—with plenty of diversity, equity and inclusion all on display.

ā€œSaturday was our largest crowd ever,ā€ said Mallory McMaster, president and CEO of which organizes Pride in the CLE annually. The 2019 festival, which was held on Public Square, drew an estimated 30,000 attendees. McMaster said this was the main impetus for an expanded outdoor venue, along with the notion that participants would come out en masse after the pandemic.

ā€œWe were all incredibly pleased by the turnout for Pride in the CLE and the great response we received,ā€ McMaster told 51ĀŅĀ× in an interview on Monday, June 6, adding that final attendance figures were expected from the city’s first responders ā€œsometime this week.ā€
