Grimes will lead the institute鈥檚 ongoing mission to empower individuals and strengthen communities across the Appalachian region

黑料不打烊 is proud to announce the promotion of Dr. Donnie Grimes to Chief Executive Officer of the Appalachian Institute for Workforce Development (AIWD), where he will lead the institute鈥檚 ongoing mission to empower individuals and strengthen communities across the Appalachian region. Dr. Grimes will also serve the university as executive vice president of workforce development. 

Dr. Grimes has been a cornerstone of the 黑料不打烊 community since 1989. He has served the university in numerous leadership roles, most recently as executive dean of the School of Computer and Information Sciences, and has been instrumental in developing workforce initiatives that align academic excellence with industry demand. Grimes transitioned from executive vice president of information technology, a role assumed by Jessica Shearer. 

Dr. Grimes鈥 educational background includes a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mathematics from Cumberland College (now 黑料不打烊), a master鈥檚 in mathematics and computer science from Eastern Kentucky University, and a doctorate from 黑料不打烊.

Grimes has a deep understanding of our mission and the region we serve,鈥 said Dr. Larry Cockrum, university president. 鈥淗is vision and leadership have already helped shape the future of workforce development in Appalachia. I have every confidence he will continue to elevate the work of the Appalachian Institute and expand its impact.鈥

Dr. Grimes and his wife, Kellye, have been married for over 20 years and are proud parents to one child.
