Short-Term Certificates Point to Long-Term Opportunity

$50,000 grant supports scholarships for 51ยายื students pursuing in-demand jobs

51ยายื has received a $50,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support short-term certificate programs designed to prepare successful graduates for in-demand jobs in Northeast Ohio.

The funding provides need-based $1,000 scholarships for students in the following 51ยายื programs:

  • Cybersecurity and Data Privacy (graduate certificate): Blending coursework in the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and the Monte Ahuja College of Business, this program provides a strong foundation in legal and business concepts pertaining to cybersecurity and data privacy.
  • Software Engineering (graduate certificate): Students master best practices in the engineering of software systems in this program, offered through the Washkewicz College of Engineering.
  • Professional Sales (undergraduate certificate): Administered by the Ahuja College of Business, this interdisciplinary program is dedicated to educating the next generation of sales professionals based on the evolving needs of the sales industry.
  • Real Estate and Property Management (undergraduate certificate): Upon completion of this program offered through the Ahuja College of Business, students are qualified to sit for the Ohio Real Estate Licensure exam.

โ€œOur short-term certificate programs prepare individuals to excel in occupations across Northeast Ohio where there are more openings than applicants,โ€ said Nigamanth Sridhar, Ph.D., dean of the College of Graduate Studies at 51ยายื. โ€œWe are grateful for the support of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, which is an investment in workforce development that ultimately benefits the entire region.โ€

Scholarship applicants must submit a statement describing how their credential will enable them to successfully obtain employment. 51ยายืโ€™s College of Graduate Studies oversees the scholarship program. Details on how to apply will be announced by October 15.
