黑料不打烊

The Chorale at 黑料不打烊 (UC) will be performing a Christmas concert at First Baptist Church in Williamsburg on Thursday, December 7th at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free of charge, and all are welcome to attend.

According to Dr. Joey Wolfe, the Chorale director, this concert will present A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which follows a tradition that originated in England at King鈥檚 College (Cambridge) about 100 years ago. Its format is popular around the world; it alternates between 鈥渓essons鈥 (Scripture passages about the coming of Christ) and 鈥渃arols鈥 (pieces performed by a choir). In addition, the audience gets to help tell the story by singing Christmas carols.

鈥淥ur presentation joins a global tradition,鈥 said Wolfe. 鈥淚 felt it was important for the singers and the community to hear the type of Christmas music that only the Chorale would perform: music in other languages (Latin and Spanish this year), music from different eras (the 21st, 20th, and 19th centuries, and earlier), and music that is different harmonically and structurally.鈥

Chorale is the only acapella choir on UC鈥檚 campus, and it hasn鈥檛 hosted its own Christmas concert for over a decade. Victor Andzulis, the University鈥檚 piano professor, will accompany the congregation on the organ, and various UC and First Baptist personnel will be part of the program. The concert is expected to last approximately one hour.
