A nursing student at ���ϲ����� (UC) was recently awarded a scholarship through the Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Midwives (KCNPNM).

Diane Glenn is earning her Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FP) degree from ���ϲ����� and is this year’s winner of KCNPNM Scholarship. Scholarship applicants were judged on six categories, including academics, professional involvement, financial need, recommendation, personal and professional goals, and a short essay written by the applicant. The award was given to Glenn at the 30th Regional Conference Toward Excellence Awards Banquet held at the Lexington Convention Center.

“The Department of Nursing faculty are proud to call Diane Glenn a student and colleague of UC,” said Cailen Baker, Chief Nurse Administrator and an associate professor in the Department of Nursing at ���ϲ�����. “Diane paved the way as a graduate of our first RN-BSN class and is now paving the way as a member of the inaugural Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner class. She is an exemplar student, nursing professional and human being. She has set the bar high for students who follow in her footsteps.”

The MSN-FNP curriculum at UC is 100 percent online and prepares students for the role of Nurse Practitioner. Graduates are prepared to assume the responsibility and accountability for health promotion, maintenance, assessment, diagnosis and management of patient problems utilizing both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.

New cohorts of MSN-FP students are admitted every fall and spring. In addition to didactic coursework, students also participate in an extensive clinical experience during the two-year program. The Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner program strives to embody the mission of the University by developing servant leaders and improving access to primary health care, not only to the residents of Appalachia but across the state of Kentucky.
